Indiana homeschool laws

If you’re considering homeschooling in Indiana, here’s what you need to know about Indiana homeschool laws:

Provide Equivalent Instruction in English

Your homeschool must offer instruction in English equivalent to that provided in public schools. While there are no mandatory subjects, it’s recommended to cover the same general subjects as public schools.

Follow the Required Number of School Days under Indiana Homeschool Laws

Your homeschool program should operate for the same number of days as public schools in your district, typically around 180 days per year.

Maintain Attendance Records

Keep records of your students’ enrollment and attendance. These records must be available upon request by the state superintendent or your local school district superintendent.

Provide Information to the State, If Necessary

If requested by the secretary of education, you must provide the number of children you’re homeschooling, categorized by grade level.

Although Indiana public school officials may ask homeschoolers to complete an online enrollment form on the Indiana Department of Education website, this is voluntary and not required under Indiana homeschool laws. However, there are situations where completing this enrollment form might be beneficial.
